LOL we where in Smallcleugh as well today. Have you tired the camera in M mode i find that setting gives you more freedom to set iso, F*/** and exposure time. the time is usually the big thing for me getting that right is hard to long and things are burnt out with light to short and its dark. personally i prefere the led lights for lighting and you do need to wave them around to get the light all over the shot

we passed 2 people on our way out at gullyback was that you,to be honest i never tried the "M" setting just "A" and "S" ill look into "M",i did finaly realise after a few shots that to remove the circle of light you had to wiggle the torch around a bit,but the ballroom was a struggle no matter what i did.

Does your camera have 'my mode'? should be on the dial where 'M' 'P' 'A' 'S' are.
If so, set yourself up there so you just switch on and it all set for you.
If you have a look through some of the threads about photography i posted some very useful links (im at work at the moment so cant dig around) They explain a lot of things.
I think the standard 'norm' that a lot of people use are as follows....
ISO 80 or 100
F 2.8
Manual focus (infinity)

For a straight forward tunnel or small stope, about 5 - 10 seconds should do it.
Medium sized chamber 15 - 20 seconds
Big chamber 30 seconds plus

the camera settings are auto/film/m/s/a/p/sp2/sp1/n/n+flash no my mode but all modes can be changed to taste but i have no control over time exposure the camera works that out...or rather i havnt spotted any way to change exposure time yet.

I have a different camera, but to set the fstop and apature, I put it on full auto on 'firework' mode. Do a half press using a 1 mill candle torch or my headlamp (depending on size of chamber/passage) which sets all that. I then change it to manual, and set the Exposure to 16 seconds. Do another half press for focus, then press the button with a 2 second delay (avoids the wobble with you pressing the button) and wave my torch about.

Another tip/trick is if you are with a group of people, get in front. Set camera up to take long exposure, and let everyone over take you. They light up the passage as they walk away, and in most cases, they wont appear in the photo.
An example of this technique can be seen here http://clunk.fotopic.net/p45021272.html

Exposure time can be manually set in 'S' (shutter). The apeture will automatically adjust itself to suit.

'A' is apeture, set the apeture to what you want. The shutter speed will automatically adjust itself to suit.

'M' is manual, meaning you can set shutter and Apeture to how you wish.

Any idea what sp1 and sp2 are? these may be your options to create a personal setup that you can flick straight too without having to mess about everytime you swith on!

It seems that your camera has some great qualities bograt!
Iso from 64 to 6,000
Max exposure of 30 seconds.
Manual focus.

Some good stuff there!

Aaaah, this is your 'my mode', pre programme them with recommended set up and away you go! you wont have to faf about underground with altering apeture etc.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
