I think we need a bit more from you Pirate, Wales if full of mines. An indication of your preferences with location, specific interests or mine type, even might help us advise you .. 😉

Ffestiniog region is the obvious first choice, everything from huge walkaround slate mines, to big SRT trips. There's also a good number of metal mines dotted around.

Cwmorthin is a fantastic, mine, just stick 'cwmorthin' into the image search box and you'll see all the photos on here from there. And with the new access conditions you don't need insurance any more, just get in contact and get the key code.

There's a lifetime worth of mine exploring just in north Wales!

Penarth is a nice Sunday afternoon trip, not far from Moel Fferna. It's probably quite amusing without a map as there are all sorts of nooks and crannies to explore - the map was 'pulled' from t'internet by its author a few months back.

Seeing as you've been into Moel Fferna, I assume you've got a bit of experience with ropes? - unless of course you've been there three times without ropes, in which case I'd consider you rather brave 😮

I wonder could we do with a thread or even a page for suggested trips, from all around the UK, and for various skill/experience levels?

We are from Oswestry which is just off the border with north wales, would prefer slate mines as thats what we have been down so far, and would prefer to get a few more done before we try anything harder!!

North wales area would be best for us as we dont live far away from there, moel fferna is only 15 miles from us!! A walk in is prefered but we dont mind a little bit of SRT/Rope work as long as it isnt too much of a drop ::)

Should be visting Penarth mine next weekend as one of the team already know where it is!!!

Thanks to vanoord for suggesting it 😉

Well if you like slate you'd definitely do a lot worse than Ffestiniog region:

Cwmorthin
Croesor
Rhosydd (both are explorable in their own right, don't have to do the Croesor Rhosydd through trip)
Wrysgan
Dinorwic - if you want a surface day with plenty of big pits

Plenty more but that would keep you going for a good few trips :)

Plenty of metal mines around as well.

I suppose you've done the Glyn Ceiriog Mines and Llanymynech, as they're on your doorstep. Have you considered getting in touch with Shropshire Mining and Caving Club. They usually do SRT training at Snailbeach.
The trip down to the 40 yd level from Perkins Level is worth it. (that's 40yds from day level, Perkin's is higher up the valley). Then theres the Llangynog mines....... Life's too short.
