I just came across this forum and am keen to get involved with the meets. I have a particular interest in looking at disused mines and geology in general as I am an exploration geologist by trade.

Be great to get some introduction info from all of you.

I am based in Bishops Stortford in the south but am willing to move around at the weekends.

Any info will be welcomed.

Thanks,

Guppy

Hi Guppy and welcome to AditNow

(I've amended the thread title a bit.)

The site has members from all over the place, so someone may be able to point you in the direction of somewhere more local to you. You're probably not a long way from the Wiltshire stone mines?

Hertfordshire itself does contain a large number of mines-dug for chalk, not sure if any are accessible... Significant workings in Hatfield and around Hemel Hempstead-recently been in the news owing to subsidence and stabilisation works. Probably the nearest accessible workings for you would be the Chislehurst 'Caves' (Mines), which is open to the public...just ignore *everything* the guides say about Romans, Druid sacrifices etc! ::)

BTW. At least couple of chalk mines dug in Bishops Stortford itself, although all entrances lost and built over
