I think there are a few 0's missing of the end of that figure
I went in a mine once.... it was dark and scary..... full of weirdos

That's a lot of coal mines Barney!

If you wanted to upload a lot (not that I'm suggesting anybody would ever want to upload 3000+ mines) I can easily write a batch import script from a spreadsheet.

What info would you want on the spreadsheet? I already have some lists at work and could easily get a list of loads of other coal mines

Hi LeeW

The basic data for a mine is simply:

1) Name of mine

2) ID of mineral - although if a batch import of mines of a specific type was being done could be left blank and the import script modified to insert the appropriate value on the basis they were all the same mineral type

3) ID or UK region (as per this page http://www.aditnow.co.uk/region/mines-quarries-uk-region.aspx  and again I can correct/map the data at import time)

4) (optional) Landranger grid reference, however mines can be imported without this information

That's the base information required, and the import scripts create the mines, credit them automatically to the person who provided the data, and create the User and Archive photograph albums automatically.

I can provide a standard spreadhseet to anybody as required, and modify provided data to work with the import process 🙂 The mine is then ready to take photograph and document submissions.

Once a mine is in place, any regional editor can edit the description if required and tag the mine to a forum area.

Thanks for that, luckily the database at work includes region and NGR, I assume you'll need sheet letters and 6 fig reference seperately.
If I get time, i'll dig out various spreadsheets next week at work, then add some others I know about

That's brilliant, thanks.

Regarding the NGR, it can either be sheet and 6 figures separately or combined, I can tell the script to handle it either way.

Cheers,
Simon

Will do good sir :)

Will some time next week be OK? I want to do some thorough tests with it, and checking for duplicates (i.e. already in the database) before running it against the live site in case I break anything 😮
