Popped into Cwmparc on my way back to Wales. The local caving group were meeting in the Parc Hotel. I picked up the latest copy of the Rhosydd book. It was hard bound in red cloth with a colour photo on the cover. A bargain at £15.00

Total nonsense. The new reprint Mike has arranged to be made available is softback, A4 and has an orange cover. If Oldham is trying a wind-up, then put him in touch with me and I'll tell him from the horse's mouth (i.e the publisher) what is currently legitimately available. Perhaps you would like to tell me the ISBN of the "red cloth" covered book with the colour photo on the front.

Then its a different book with the same title. Or a plagiarised copy. If the latter then shame on the person who thought it a clever idea to either print it, or involve a third party in their stupid wind-up.

Not sure what the fuss is about. There is no ISBN, no publisher. Bur a bargain at £15.00. Not sure if it is a Xerox or print. Good clear print. Will be on Mendip in 2 weeks time, will show it to anybody then.

If you've bought a second hand copy of the genuine earlier edition i.e. not a photocopy, and it was honestly described as a second hand copy of the genuine book then there is no issue.

But if what you've bought was sold to you as "the latest copy of the Rhosydd book" then - from your description - you've been sold something that was dishonestly described and represents copyright infringement, either of the current or previous edition.

The sums of £10, £15 or whatever may not seem large; but two people have put a lot of time and money into bringing the new and improved Rhosydd book to print. They're not going to get rich on it, they did it because people asked for it.

And their commitment deserves our support and gratitude.

But let's get to the bottom of what you've been sold first?

I remember it being said that a few places in the text had been changed.

Could Mike or Peter give one easily found example where the text changed from the second edition?

Then james1 can say the text here is xyz or zxy.

The format of the entire book is different due to the different page size. Simple - what are the last three words on page 49?

Could someone have rebound an old copy?

I had some very old books once that basically fell apart, I took them to a book binders and had them rebound. There is nothing wrong in doing that as you're not creating a copy of the book.

Yeah but if somebody is offering dodgy bootlegs (who ever would do such a thing?) they need a very good slap.

Simply it has had to be retyped there will be changes and corrections, Michael Lewis requested a removal of a paragraph. It's in A4 format and better font for it be read.

As for earlier editions only the first didn't have an ISBN but it still infringes copyright if it is copied and sold on. The one described is not a new edition as the writer claims.

Ask if you can get a review in Subterranea, and have you tried the various relevant Facebook groups?

Thanks for getting this reprinted Mike, received mine a few days ago ;D

Have you considered trying to get the Rhiwbach book reprinted? Given the volume of interest in the mine I’m sure you more than cover your costs.

I have looked at this , however, the Author has passed away. This is a much thicker volume and would cost a lot more to produce. I understand the text maybe on disc but haven't found them yet. it might also require a substantial edit, that is costly and might not be agreed by the Authors close family
