I suspect they shoot to varying degrees on most of the upland moor & it may well be the case that the landowners don't want industrial equipment in sight of their clients? But agree that the notion that its a ruse to quietly slip away isn't too far from the truth...

Conversely, on one of our digs, the Landowner was concerned with us not being on site in the nesting season rather than the shooting season itself.

Yes, that's what we found. Nothing was allowed to disturb the birds until the shoot and we couldn't get access in the spring or early summer, which would have been a more pleasant time to work on the high moors.

The drill rig was working during week commencing 25th August at the Scaleburn site. By 31st August, the rig was parked on the track on the county boundary.

Mincos Agm was on Sept 26 last year, so I am presuming it is in October at the latest this year, there has been no official word yet. I would imagine a decision will be communicated there one way or another regarding funding for the Pennines project or ending exploration altogether. The two Canadian projects look more optimistic and Id imagine the remaining cash in hand will be more than likely invested there.

Any sighting of the Minco Chaps around Nenthead lately. Surely the grouse have taken up residency in various deep freezers by now. Minco have been busy in Newfoundland and New Brunswick with good results from both.

I think, bearing in mind a fair number of us scout the Pennine moors then one of us would have seen the drilling rigs, somewhere.
More likely assumption they have returned to Ireland to do some speculative drilling there.

funnily enough...

drove past on sunday morning. the tracked truck they used was parked just off the opposite side of the road to where they last were, but a couple of hundred yards further towards coalcleugh. It was loaded with what looked like the 'fence panels' they've been using and a load of rods

I wouldnt be suprised if they pull out. They are down to £5m and the Canadian projects are more likely to be prioritised at the moment.

If they have left a truck on tracks and a load of rods then it seems like they will start up again They wouldn't leave that gear hanging around if they were quitting. They are not stuck for money yet, they achieved quite a lot with the first $Million.

Looks like they are back drilling again. Todays report makes interesting reading. Wonder what Geology Heads make of it.

I personally do not think they have found a great deal!i
Initially they were going to look for new orebodies in lower strata, presumably the Melmerby Scar Llimestone.
All they seem to have found is adjacent replacement type flats adjacent to some of the Veins.
If the VM company had access to diamond core drilling I guess they could have found these.

a delightful location given this weeks weather forecast! methinks an early christmas finish might be on the cards!

Thanks Ebgb, A picture speaks a thousand words. That should disappear the disappearing conspiracy. A pity they couldn't drill while the weather was good but rules is rules.

Latest publicity blurb at:

No details of recent results except for saying 30 holes have now been drilled.

Drilling on 13th January at the same site. Snow on ground and air temp -1C. Looks like water supply pipe was frozen.

Are the weather conditions a bit more favourable for the drillers yet?

roads are clear now at least, except garigill to nenthead which is still a bit suicidal, but guess they'll struggle for want of water that's not frozen, driven past a few times this last week and seen no activity
