Digging through a cupboard while trying to tidy my office last night, I found one of these:

🔗97717[linkphoto]97717[/linkphoto][/link]

Takes 2x 18650, mostly waterproof*.

The connector can be chopped off and replaced with whatever you want.

I've got one with a StenLight connector on and it works fine.

Will let this one go for £10 delivered or £6.50 if you want to collect it or have it sent along on a Thursday evening.

PM me for further details.

These are now completely discontinued, so this is the last one we'll have.

The replacement for this is a slightly larger version with a USB socket which can be used as a power source for small devices, so arguably more useful (e.g. you can recharge your phone when the power goes out), but a bit bigger and heavier.

I'll take a few photos of the new version shortly.

*IPX6 rated, so fine for a quick dunking but don't go diving and expect the water to stay out.

Mr V, think you should specify output voltage for clarity.

Assume suitability for Stenlight is nominal 7.4V, that is, the cells are connected in series?

These hold 18650 in series, same as the inside of the Sten battery packs iirc?

Either way, I've run a Sten off these packs with no apparent problems - just to make sure, I've connected it up this morning and it's been burning* happily downstairs for the last half hour.

* by which I mean 'emitting lots of light' rather than 'on fire' 😉

Remember the Sten (may it rest in peace) runs off anything from 6 to 18V DC. It was one of the nice features with the lamp.

Parallel cells would be nominal 3.7V so as Mr V says the holder must hold them in series.

The reason I asked is because it would be understandably very attractive to a DIY lamp builder and the voltage would be important.

Simon, are you saying that Stenlights are finished for good?

For the benefit of anyone who has one with spent batteries, broken plugs etc I am happy to fit an XT60 to the lamp so as to run of my 2 cell 3.5 AH power packs at reasonable cost.

It seems a shame to me that people may have perfectly good Stenlights that only need as bit of TLC and yet go out and buy new lamps.
As an alternative I can also make an adaptor so not to have to do anything to the lamp, I have done a couple for 'Heb'.
Maybe he like to say something about this if he reads this post?

As far as I am aware, there are two new versions of the lamp under development, but development is proceeding at a glacial pace so they may or may not appear within a timeframe that justifies importing them.

There's also the issue that the exchange rate changes might make the lamps very uncompetitive.

There's also a counter-argument that quite a lot of the market is capable of being serviced by the more expensive Petzls or something like the Fenix 18650-powered HL60R - £60-70 including battery for IPX8, with around 1k lumens and built-in USB recharging is an interesting proposition.

As far as the Sten batteries are concerned, I've still got stock - and as you say, there are plenty of alternatives.

Vanoord has batteries in stock, and items like parts kits and the like. So anybody with a dead battery or needing a cable can still get those easily 🙂 I can't really comment on the lamp, I handed over the reigns 2 years ago now, having supported the existing customers as best I could, often at my own cost. And Vanoord has continued supporting them. However ultimately the ball is in the American's court. And I was latterly very unimpressed with their communication and pace of development.

Sounds like Mr V is offering this service at little or no financial return, as were you Simon, and I applaud him for it.

Its similar with me to be honest, my money is in the lamps, but goodwill all goes round in circles.

My lamp(s) will take anything up to 5S Li-Ion/LiPo, so no worries no my behalf.
