Hot off the press today cost £25.00 available from www.moorebooks.co.uk and usual outlets.

Authors Jim Rieuwerts and P Wolstenholme, Sb, 240 x 210, 133pp

Mainly colour photographs, with historic paintings and early Black and White Photos. Photography by Philip Wolstenholme, supplemented with photos provided from Steve and the late Pauk Deakin. The book is well presented and the index at the front lists the mines featured the one thing missing are specific grid references although from the maps and plans finding the mines shouldn't present a problem. Jim as ever provides the historical content with Phillip providing Colour photos of the present underground. Clearly the link between Caves and Mines is identified with the soughs entering cave systems.

Cheers mate - I think we've made a good start at least at presenting some really important information in an attractive presentation. I hope we can get some interest from folks without a specific interest in mines and mine-exploring - i.e. new recruits. That's the whole point really.

I also think Jim has really stepped up to the plate in writing a very accessible text of what is a complicated and potentially rather dry subject - to the lay-reader at least. The old workings within Speedwell are also getting some exposure at last, and the history contained within those can be better appreciated.

And lastly, we've been able to incorporate some recognition of the early explorers' efforts to begin unlocking the mysteries of the system - even now we're following up some of their leads on one of our projects. It would be nice to get into some of the workings that they found and which were then buried/covered again by persons unknown.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
