Hi Mr Fontayne
I think I maybe speak for a lot of people when I say that posts such as this make me feel uneasy.
I am aware that most mineral collectors and indeed dealers are nice people and count several as very long standing old friends. However I feel that offering minerals for sale on this website is inappropriate as it worries me greatly that this could set a predecent and also lead to the 'exchanges' between rival dealers that most users of this website are totally p------d off with.
There does seem to be something in mineral collecting and dealing that brings out the worst in some people, and again I feel I speak for many when I say that we want it keeping off this website.

Please do not take this personally and have a good holiday and New Year.
🙂

Thank you Roy. I thought about suggesting that the entry was inappropriate but you phrased my unease far better than I.

I don't know about inter-dealer rivalry, but buying a specimen feels to me as tame and underwhelming as going to the supermarket to buy some meat instead of going out and getting the immense satisfaction of catching it yourself, not that I condone hunting, but you know what I mean. 😉

I am not a mineral dealer. I have collected Cornish minerals for over 45 years.
Any funds I get go back into restoring North Herodsfoot Mine which I own.
I see I am not welcome on this site so I will not post again

That's possibly a bit of a sensitive reaction! The comments above suggested that you might be a really nice guy ...... nobody is passing a personal judgement, I don't think......

If you look at my website it will give you an indication to what I do. Perhaps I should flatten the site and buildings and stop welcoming people to come to Herodsfoot?

Absolutely Peter, but no disrespect, I think you may have been leading a sheltered life where the "M" word is concerned.

We have all seen the mild 'rutting' on here between rival dealers. Out there in the wide world there has actually been fights and threats of petrol bombs.
What is it that spoils relationships between explorers and landowners, minerals.
Where is the friction between the wardens and explorers at Carrock, minerals.
I could go on and on.

If it comes to it, lets have a poll.
"Should the offering of minerals for sale be prohibited on aditnow"
I say yes.
So what do others think?
There are plenty of other sites out there that cater for this.

Mr Fontayne, no need for the fit of pique
See we are off already.

I would like to hear about the restoration work personally. If it can be funded sensibly then why not if the owner has things to sell. Or am I naive?

By which I mean I'd like to hear about the work, not see adverts for minerals necessarily. If someone said to you by helping with the project you can choose from a range of specimens as a "thank you" - would that be trading?

I only joined the forum a few weeks ago, which I can see was a mistake, the only reason I mentioned minerals for sale was because there was a for sale and wanted section.

I think that the position needs clarifying by the site admins with regard to the concensus of opinion of the site users.

I say again, no offense intended to you Mr Fontayne, good luck with your work.

This is the kind of nonsense we are largely spared in the South East! Though I imagine there might be issues with fossils from some places, but not in our underground bits, luckily. Anyone thinking of prising a specimen out of our soft roof-supporting quarry walls might be in for a bit more than they bargained for. 😢

Far, far more than you will ever appreciate, my friend. All without destroying the delicate sites I love by searching for artefacts or specimens. And as for Roy, well, I suggest you don't even go there with such a question.......

Putting modesty to one side for a moment, this comment cannot seriously be directed at me?

Just in case you missed something from my postings, I have nothing against mineral collectors and dealers, certainly nothing against Mr Fontayne whos project sounds a very interesting one.
I have several MCs and MDs as personal friends.
I just feel that advertising minerals for sale does not belong on this website. Simple.

Quite right Roy. Also, this forum does not need provocative posts, from any quarter, whether directed at other members or outsiders. It thrives on intelligent and nerdy discussions!

Well this thread is getting a bit crock, did anyone care to ask Fontayne about himself or his hobbies or passion when he first posted on the subject of his collection, maybe I missed it.

You hang on in there Fontayne take no sh*t and hats off to you for what you are trying to achieve.

As to advertizing the fact that someone wants to sell some mineral specimens on here then surely that's all it is, that is to say letting it be known, it's not a transaction.

Minerals specimens by their very nature tend to be mining related, what's the problem.

Err, he never mentioned he had a collection at the start of this, I don't think.... but anyway, all Roy has done is suggest views are sought, not that this or that should or should not be done, other than by expressing his opinion politely, which he is perfectly entitled to do, as am I, and neither of us has flamed anyone. I can't speak for Roy, but I do try to choose my words carefully, and read other peoples' words likewise. You will also notice, I hope, that I am interested in the project, and said as much.
