For all you monster sized Caplamp Builders out there.

I've put a Empty CEAG Stainless Steel Battery box and also an
Empty Oldham Battery box and Caplamp on Ebay.

The Ceag Stainless Box Latch does not work properly, the "teeth" that should be
in the latch are missing. It does catch though and need pushed across to one side to get it
to open up, don't know if that is sufficient for use or if it needs some more work.
I still have the 3 containers for the acid /alkaline but i doubt if anyone wants them, they
are empty and pretty heavy but if anyone wants them i'm open to offers of enough
funds for postage to send them to the winner first and foremost and after that anyone
else who wants them.

Yep, the CEAG looks like a "Superlite". I was only a kid at the time, but can clearly remember my Mother bathing the alkaline burns, on my Dad's back, after he'd spent a shift laid on his side in the thin seams at Lepton Edge Colliery, in the mid 50's. Apparently, they had a habit of allowing the electrolite to "creep" thro' the cell vents, when laid down.

I also had a spell wearing these. There was a lamproom full of them at Newton Hill training centre, Wakefield, in the late 60's.

Hope this was of interest... 🙂

Yes , it was interesting. It confirms what i've read in some of my caving clubs archives of people in the club ending up with burns from leaking batteries too. Each cell just seems to have been sealed with a rubber "O"ring with a cap/lid screwed down onto it.

Auction finishes soon !

Heard a tale of someone who for some reason wore one beneath a wetsuit.
I wont recount it as I plan on eating shortly.

Same type of valve as oldish Nife batteries had, rubber ring like the old bicycle tyre valve sleeving. Very painful burns. 😉
