The first edition 1956 was hard backed, cloth bound and sold for 5 guineas the pair, sometimes in a box but very rarely seen, I know of one such set in absolutely mint condition.
I offered £400 for the set but was refused..... 😞
The second edition 1969 was was also hard backed and had a pictorial cover.
Wasn't the green one a paperback and published in the 80's?

Darned good price by the way Mike

whoops get my facts straight it is the 1994 reprint of the 1956 edition. I have offered it out here first for anyone who wants a cheap working copies postage is over £7 to send you are therefore talking of £19 for a set that retails at £40+

If I knew how to attach the image of the creased cover I would this is a bargain

Just out of interest, are there any major updates in the latest issue?

I have a first ed which was in nearly new condition when I bought it, about 4 years ago and it's looking very well thumbed indeed.

Half of me would like a decent first ed copy and my reading copy to destroy further, however, if the latest edition has updates on later activities and discoveries, I'd perhaps consider one of those instead.

Its only a reprint of the 1956 edition nothing would have been added

I have had a good look at the volumes there was a 1969 reprint where a few errors spellings etc were corrected and a Addenda and Corrigenda was created. In the 1988 reprint K E Beer created an enalarged Addenda and Corrigenda of some 51 pages this reprint just copies that
