15 miles by bike and walking on foot. Well Snowdon is 3 miles up and 3 miles down. You get the highest elevation by going up the Watkin path. They mention a waterfall abseil on the way down again, which also suggests the Watkin path? Can't think of any other waterfalls there. As the pick up point is Llanberis, Watkin path also makes sense?

I was looking at the map and if you trace the remaining 9 miles back down the valley toward Beddgelert, then that suggests the mine would be in the area of either Croesor, Cwmorthin or Llechwedd.

As the Snowdon ascent is something like 3000 ft, they are missing the extra 1500ft somewhere. Where do you come out of a slate mine and have to climb so high to get into a vehicle. I could only think of the new road above Llechwedd for the ziplines? ( Croesor and Cwmorthin you walk out and down to your car).

Yes, that's quite often what people mean when they ask 'how deep are we' I always scratch my head and try and work out how much rock is vertically above my head to the surface but invariably they mean 'how far have we come from the entrance'.

That's a bit crap though. Visit a show mine, then a bus, and then walk up Snowdon.

I very much doubt it's Llechwedd. Could be though. Or Maenofferen. But if money is changing hands (which it is) it would be a legal nightmare to carry it out properly. I really can't see it. And even if they did go to the trouble and expense to make it happen, I'm sure they'd want to shout about it.

Personally if I was paying 200 quid to be taken somewhere I'd want to know where they were taking me. Given that they won't say I'd suggest it is somewhere they are not supposed to be or they haven't found anywhere yet, and are waiting to see how much money they can take before they work it out.

I hope I'm wrong, maybe their future posts will clarify things but it looks very suspicious to me indeed.

Looking at the web site again it's next April - at first glance I assumed it was this April.

Maybe they haven't asked about the mine part yet.

I've just emailed them to ask. No idea if they'll reply, or if they want to keep it under wraps until the day.

It won't be Cwmorthin.

Maybe someone from the Mines Inspectorate should ask them where they taking people for money.

It says Max capacity 8

So it sounds like its not in the style of a mass race, more a smaller scale led activity packaged up as one?

Either way it's not for me, I like a nice walk up a hill and I like a nice trip down a mine, but not on the same day, doesn't sound like there's much time for sandwiches, a brew up and a snooze.

I am not sure why they call it a "race". It seems to be just a guided group of between 6 and 8 people doing it together, not a race in my eyes.

Has anyone looked at the rest of their website? I am sure this one would appeal to a few people on here:-

My suspicion would be that Mr.RL is correct and it's part of Bounce Below at Llechwedd - probably the underground treetop adventure thingy.

I suppose you could claim to be half a mile underground if you measured from where you are to the top of the highest mountain within a few miles...

I am surprised another member on here hasn't commented, or maybe he isn't allowed to?

Unless I'm strangely mistaken, there's no reason for anyone other than Bounce Below to be aware of a group booking for their operation, whether it's a year in advance or for tomorrow.

Yes, the overall package may be out of the ordinary, but the use of the Bounce Below underground treetop adventure is entirely normal.

Forgot to mention that Llechwedd also has mountain bikes, hence possibly why the transfer from mine to mountain is by bike?

A few odd things in the advert.

1) Several hours underground, but no squeezes? Not CRRT then.

2) Possibly harnessed together. Obvious sensible precaution in event of an underground crevasse?

3) Bring your own headtorch for underground element. Surely they must provide a helmet? Would not Llechwedd or GoBelow, etc provide their own headtorch with the helmet.

4) "Largest ever vertical height gain from a point to point route anywhere in Britain." Bigger than the Three Peaks then?

Even the "proper" Three Peaks in the Dales is more than 4,500 feet of ascent and there's no need for cars/bikes or other aids to pedestrianism, although the pint of tea in the Penyghent Cafe helped.

As regards the 10 drams challenge we managed that in the Highlander in Craigellachie (including a Japanese malt) for less than half the price (food as well) for all three of us without the need for tiresome physical stuff, beyond the need to keep standing:angel:
