I quite fancy this, need to look at my dates.

H'mmmmm... Cord or moleskin trousers... check. Black lace-up work boots... check. Moleskin waistcoat.... check. Flannel shirt... check. Ex NCB pressed-fibre hat.... check. Carbide lamp .... check. Neckerchief.... check.

Can't remember when I last saw paraffin for sale. I had an uncle who worked for Pink Paraffin, delivering it door to door; my great-aunt had a stinky paraffin heater in her living room, eeewwwww... and one in the outside toilet, EEEWWWW

I've just spent a worthy hour unseizing a verdigris encrusted Protector lamp (thanks for bidding Margot!). A couple of new washers and a length of wick might prove illuminating... provided I can work out how to light the thing - it's one that sparks via electric rather than flint.

Yup, that should work. It would be nice to restore the proper function though. It looks as if there should be a thin wire between the two terminals, looped towards the wick - similar to the glowing wire inside a light bulb. I'm sure I can replicate that.

Incidentally, I've ordered a metre of 5/32" round wick if anyone needs any. It would take me a few years to use it up.
