Churchill Forge in North Worcester open day 8th September
The Churchill Forge water mill was one of the last water powered forge mills and produced spades, shovels and ladles into the early 1970s. It is now being restored as a working museum.
The forge is next open to the public on Sunday 8th September.
The forge has two waterwheels, the main wheel still in operation drives the forge machinery through a cast iron hollow axle and a spur wheel which meshes with a counter-shaft which in turn powers a flat belt to overhead shafting to various hammers and presses.
The water wheel also has a connecting rod to a crocodile shear which is still used to cut mild stell 4x1 inch bars.
The forge is situated in the village of Churchill, Worcestershire, close to Blakedown on the the A456 west of Birmingham.
