A new event has been added to the Events page.

Event name: Moel Fferna Trip May 2012

Date & time: 11/05/2013 at 10:00

Details: Open invite trip to Mel Fferna.

Moel Fferna is a spectacular mine with plenty to explore and photograph.

The entrance pitch will be rigged for SRT and with an electron ladder. So whilst not strictly an SRT trip you'll need to be happy climbing up and down an electron (wire) ladder whilst lifelined.

I have added myself to the list, I will be bringing up to three others with me.

They will be needing the use of the electron as they don't srt.

On another forum, it's was stated that Moel Fferna was "probably the most litter ridden hole I've ever had the misfortune to set foot in".

I've not been for a good few months, but either it's gone very bad, very quickly, or it's being exagerrated. To be on the safe side, if I bring some bags, can we make an effort to pick up anything that we see that shouldn't be there?

I'll volunteer to figure out how to get it up and out, and dispose of it properly.

40-45ft, but the bottom 15-20 are laddered.

There is an overhang at the bottom which was laddered a few years ago, makes access much, much easier.

You still need SRT or Electron ladders to get in and out but the bottom 12 feet or so used to be a right pain and made it very slow to get a group out.

It's a shaft of around 40 feet depth, but the bottom 10 to 15 feet are done on a solid (not an electron), metal, ladder. So you need to abseil / electron down around 30 feet and climb down the remainder on the fixed ladder.

funny enough on this subject ,today i heard that there is a small group looking to open an adit up at fferna . may be not true but im waiting for snow to ****** off then im going for a look if its true .....
