A new event has been added to the Events page.

Event name: Aditnow trip to see "Life and Death Underground".

Date & time: 29/08/2012 at 18:00

Details: A trip down to Braich Goch to see a play being performed, dramatising the daily toils of a Victorian mining family.
Set in the old Braich Goch slate mine, the performance will unfold by candle light....

Meet up in the car park of the Corris Craft Centre by 1800 hrs, to make our way in ready for the start of the performance at 1900 hrs.
We have had a fair amount of interest in an Aditnow group trip, so please let me know as soon as possible so that i can pre-book tickets and guarantee places. Places for each performance are limited to 30, so lets make it a full house! It's sure to be a great evening out!
I have made a provisional booking at the Four Crosses for anyone fancying a bite to eat on the way home!

Just bumping this thread up one last time!

This event is at Corris Mine Explorers, at 1800 hrs on August the 29th.

However, I will be confirming the tickets for the play tomorrow morning at 10 am, so if anyone else is interested please either respond to this thread, get in touch with me by PM or click the "attend" button on the Event Page. :flowers:
I will confirm the tickets tomorrow and will then PM all attendees to confirm the details (and we'll take a vote on where to go for food after....and possibly half a mild if we're feeling adventurous 😉 )
I will then disappear off on holiday, with no internet access, for three weeks ( 😉 ) and will see you all in Corris on the 29th

Have been asked to pass the following on to everybody coming.

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Corris+Mine+Explorers,+United+Kingdom&hl=en&ll=52.654572,-3.851438&spn=0.023977,0.066047&sll=52.654362,-3.851319&sspn=0.023977,0.066047&oq=corris+mine+e&hq=Corris+Mine+Explorers,+United+Kingdom&t=m&z=15

No need to bring your own helmet / torch.

And if you're not expecting uneven floors and puddles you're on the wrong web site

See you all there

Please find enclosed your tickets for the Theatre Rue and Corris Mine Explorers production of ‘Life and Death Underground’.

I’m sure that you are aware that this very special production shall be taking place within the Braich Goch mine, an old slate mine. In order for you to be comfortable in the underground environment, it is necessary to advise you on what to wear and what to bring. The temperature underground is a cool 8° all year around so make sure that you wrap up warmly (preferably in a waterproof coat) and wear strong walking boots or wellingtons as the ground is uneven and there can be large puddles! On the way to the entrance of the mine we have a slope & 3 steps. Hard hats will be provided and must be worn at all times underground. We have low levels of lighting within the Braich Goch mine so light will be needed but again we will provide this. Unfortunately, we cannot permit the use of visitor’s personal torches as their level of brightness might interfere with the show’s staging. Cameras and recording equipment are not allowed underground and nor are umbrellas.

Some useful information about the site: refreshments will be available to purchase from the onsite café, Y Crochan, prior to the performance (shuts 6.30pm) but no food or drink must be taken underground. We have toilets onsite but not within the mine itself.

Please arrive on site around 3.30pm if you are booked for the 4pm matinee, and around 6.30pm if you are booked for the 7pm show. Please book in at the Corris Mine Explorers Reception to the north of the Corris Craft Centre site. The show lasts one hour and a quarter and there is no interval. You can be provided with a seat (if you need one) most people prefer standing but just ask our cast in the mine if you need one. If you have any queries with regards to access please call Corris Mine Explorers on 01654 761 244. Unfortunately, Corris Mine Explorers are unable to admit children younger than 8 years old into the show and I therefore apologise for any inconvenience that this might cause.

Thank you for purchasing your tickets. I hope that you enjoy the show.

PM sent, looks like we may be able to work around it now, I will be in touch

Big thanks to simonrl for tying up the loose ends and keeping you posted while I was off in sunnier climes :flowers:

I have booked the Cross Foxes (bar food, not restaurant 😉 ) for food after as it is on the way home and not out of anyone's way, as I for one will be starving by then and I thought that we may as well make a sociable night of it as we don't often get the chance 😉
Food is good there I believe and quite reasonably priced, see their website:

http://www.crossfoxes.co.uk

Hope that's ok with everyone!

See you all tomorrow

Just checking, this isn't an SRT trip is it?
Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.

Agreed 🙂 An excellent night out.

Hats off to Mark for coming up with the idea and seeing it through.

It was well staged and very well executed. And if you'd gone in knowing nothing about the Welsh slate industry you'd have come out with an insight into working and living conditions with a little bit of geology and social history thrown in - without realising it :)

Smashing! I hope they do something similar again next year

Well we were given a demonstration of non SRT climbing, good to know my investment of £10 in the Braich Goch Quarry is worth 1/4 of a locomotive. I was a little concerned as to how wisely the quarry was spending our investment when I noticed they had bought an expensive LED torch which seems frivolous when the workers buy their own candles. Was good to see the quarries encouragement of cheap child labour though the incident with the black was a little unfortunate. I'm glad there was only one casualty.

This was a superb play, it was good to see the expressions on those not used to slatemines, particularly the climbing demonstration, well done Mark.
