Just an idle thought as I may be in the Lake District at the end of June.

Anyone about / like to be about / got any ideas? :flowers:

I might be free around then, and I've had a urge for some time to go and look at Copperplate mine - anyone know what the access situation is regarding it?

I could make it down for a day from SW Scotland, I've looked at Copperplate Mine before but thought it was too difficult to get into?

Goldscope, Carrock (we'd need an adjustable spanner for the gate now), Coniston Slate and Copper, Seathwaite Graphite, Greenside (if we could find the key!) Rachel Wood at Thornthwaite (the Forestry Commission have it I think) are all good possibilities for a visit.

Or there's always Nenthead 😉

I could be persuaded with a trip over. All the mines mentioned above are worth a look.

The stuff I'm interested in at Copperplate are the old adits, which as far as I can tell from the OS and Ian Tyler's book are a) on access land and b) not particularly extensive or hazardous, mainly being coffin levels through solid ground.

Looking at Ian's book, Brandlehow is the more "challenging" one in the area though I'll leave Roy Fellows to comment on that, since it's his survey and photos in the book!

Is this 'meet' still looking likely, since it's this coming weekend?

Not for me, I'm afraid - SWMBO has decreed I will be otherwise occupied....

Unfortunately I shall not be in attendance: circumstances dictate otherwise and I shall not be enjoying a weekend away 😞

I would like a good trip in Coniston Copper Mine
Excuse me while my carbon footprint kicks your eco-mentalist backside!

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
