I know I'm not out to play on the Sunday but there's still nothing arranged, so a quick bump for this - are people wanting to do another SRT trip, or would they prefer a non-string day? If it's the latter, there are a couple of suggestions spring to mind.

Depends how serious the Saturday trip is!

I'm conscious it's nearly on us and I've still not sorted arrangements 😞

So, camping, concensus was Miners Standard because there is a shower block...

I'll book 3 pitches for Saturday night (Rockchick, Droid, me) and 1 pitch for Friday night (Droid) - unless instructed otherwise

I'll be coming up Saturday morning and picking Rockchick up on the way - it's about a 3 1/2 hour journey so we can be wherever we're needed by 10 if that's OK?

For Saturday, I'd suggest meeting up at the Smithy cafe in Monyash for about 10.30 (breakfasts and filled oatcakes recommended!) before heading up to the mine.

As for Sunday, you may want something a bit less strenuous and thrutchy after Meccano passage, so Harrybecca mine is a possibility for a good but not too hard non-SRT. Parking near it is limited unless you don't mind driving up an unsurfaced track though!

That sounds a plan...

I guess we can decide about Sunday on Saturday (if that makes sense) dependant on whether anybody already has any ideas lined up and how battered everybody is after Saturday...

So!

Saturday

Where: Meeting at Smithy cafe in Monyash for about 10.30

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=smithy+cafe+monyash&hl=en&fb=1&gl=uk&hq=smithy+cafe&hnear=0x487a25a2badc244b:0x1d054a70270e49b0,Monyash,+Derbyshire&cid=0,0,17576761824364495334&t=m&z=16&iwloc=A

What: Some strenuous north-wales-slate-mine-explorer bashing SRT / crawling / mud ordeal.

Who: Me + Rockchick + AR + OG + Droid + pwhole (?) + gaz1983 (?) + zomjon1 (?)

Sunday

What: final decision to be made on Saturday... either more of the same or something different...

Where: where we're told ;)

Who: Me + Rockchick + OG + Droid + pwhole (?) + gaz1983 (?) + zomjon1 (?)

Camping

Unless anybody objects - Miners Standard again? The Barley Mow looks nice but lacks showers. Unless the Barley Mow suits more people for a drink on Saturday night.

We'll be fine arranging sunday at any point, lots in the local areas to choose and we have plenty of kit.
I have lots of good ideas for gentle bimbles up to "stupid-arsed why did you take us there???" type trips.
As an afterthought ;'fireworks' from the cliff top in Matlock bath @9 pm.Sat', will make travel impossible for hours!so back road to Bonsall,or sit like a tit for the duration.
see you soon,
Owd Git.

Any route you want in Knotlow/ Hillocks suggest 'through trip' via Meccano passage.either direction.
will rig both shafts and/ or climbing routes,
all tastes catered for, also a jolly along the coffin in 'waterfall chamber' as far as you want.
however the best laid plans ...and all that..

I should be fine for Saturday, and Adam can meet me in Bakewell first. I need to be back in Bakewell for the 18.30 bus home, but that's my only restriction if someone can just roll me out of the back door of a car if it's getting late ;)

Still not sure on Sunday, but it's better than 50% I know the way around Harrybecca if folks fancy that, and I can get to Hassop on the bus easily. If it's more remote I may struggle, but we'll discuss on Saturday.

That's a conicidence, my other suggestion was going to be the Northern Dale mines (Old Ash and Lords & Ladies). Sorting out the keys is normally a case of simply asking at the farm, though both mines are quite tight and crawly in places so after Meccano these North Wales types may want to be able to stand upright a bit on Sunday.....

By 'og', do you mean yourself or Owd Git, because I know that he is still on for the Saturday trip (and probably Sunday)?

Camping is booked - 3 pitches at the Miners Standard.

Hope that's OK with you Droid - the camping at the Barley Mow looks nice, but it sounds like it might be a bit noisy there on Saturday night!

Sorry about this guys, but yet again, work has reared its ugly head - today's job has been postponed for a variety of factors, and he's now begging me to do it tomorrow, as it's the only possible day. We're a two-man team, which puts me in a very awkward position, but to be honest, if it's not done tomorrow, he may not get paid for a while, which means me too!

I'm not happy about it, but there's not much I can do realistically. Apart from anything else, all my SRT metalwork is still at the job, and trying to get it all back for tomorrow wouldn't be easy.

I'm hoping I can do Sunday instead though, but will need to be able to stay in contact to arrange that, if possible. I am restricted to buses, but can get to Bakwell or Matlock easy enough - will check times later. Can't promise yet, but it would be nice to meet up.

Simon and Owd Git - I'll PM my numbers and if you can send me your mobile numbers, at least we have a potential contact?

Warning!! THe pubs/ Hotel in T' bath use plastic recepticals for ale on Firework sessions. Take your fave mug, tankard or suffer horribly the fate of plastic tainted ale.
