Camping - Miners Standard again yes  I think Rockchick is checking if it needs booking.

The Barley Mow (home of hen racing) now does camping and has pop-up tents to use for a modest fee. and a greater range of 'good' ales & ciders.
see web or 01629 825685 Dave or Colette

Due to my lack of driving skills, I'm unlikely to camp in Winster as carrying the extra bags and tent will just about do me in, but I can meet at an appropriate halfway point for Monyash or Lathkill - maybe Bakewell? I can get there for 9.25 or 10.15 from Sheffield.

Not sure what's planned for Sunday yet, or whether I can do it, but I'll attempt it at least. At current rates, my plans should have changed about 15 times by next weekend 😞

I''l be down in Bakewell around 9.30 on the Saturday morning if you can make it.

As a general suggestion for the Saturday morning, should we all meet up at the Smithy in Monyash?

Simon - as previously mentioned, I'm not out on Sunday, I'm required for equine chauffering duties ...

According to OG the Barley Mow can hire out a pop-up tent if that makes it any easier?

Anybody else for camping or shall I just book for me and Rockchick?

We'll probably know what we're doing on Saturday on Sunday if that makes sense.

I apologise for my shoddy planning on this one - I've had almost no time for weeks and weeks.

It'll all work out on the day I'm sure.

Just checked the Barley Mow web site and there are no showers. I'll check tomorrow and come to a final decision ;)

Does anybody have any strong feelings either way?

Please post up if you need camping! So far:

Truthfully no idea about the trips yet - I'll try and firm up arrangements early next week when I've got a bit more time 😞

should be refreshing
oppertunity to look as far as four ways?
😮 (this would reduce the need for running showers at camp!)

If you go down Knotlow and anyone fancy the Bung Series, please ease my troubled mind, I seem to recall seeing Lead Ore in situ in the floor of the natural passage somewhere near where the "Too tight" rift drops down. I am convinced I saw it, but was I dreaming?

Is there still a problem of bad air down Knotlow/Hillocks?

Been one I've wanted to look down for 20 years now. But maybe not Crimbo Passage..... 😢

To answer the queries above in part at least...

The air last Tuesday was a bit odd, one of the party couldn't get his lighter to stay alight but there was a slight draught coming down Whalf Old Sough from Crimbo vein and I didn't experience any symptoms of bad air. However, if people are concerned then maybe try a spot-test with a lighter before heading into Meccano passage?

As for a lead vein, I didn't have time to go through the Bung so I couldn't comment, I'll look on a future visit. I did however note surprising amounts of galena in the sediments which I can't imagine the miners having left, so have these washed into the area post-abandonment?

BTW Ric, our handiwork from last year is standing up nicely!

I know I'm not out to play on the Sunday but there's still nothing arranged, so a quick bump for this - are people wanting to do another SRT trip, or would they prefer a non-string day? If it's the latter, there are a couple of suggestions spring to mind.
