Couldn't agree with you more. I get into trouble if I can't hit it with a hammer or light a fire in it. :lol:

What would be the the best book(s) as regards good info on Cornish Mine Pumps up to the last used (steam) types?

Well there is Bartons "The Cornish Engine" but as for best books they're long gone I'm afraid.
A lot of the information I have has been gleaned from: The Institute of Cornish Engineers.
A fantastic book if you are willing to pay an arm and a leg is A Treatise on the Cornish Engine by Pole
