A new event has been added to the Events page.

Event name: Alderley Edge Copper Mines Meet - August 2009

Date & time: 22/08/2009 at 10:00

Details: AditNow members have been offered a trip to the Alderley Edge mines, near Cheshire.

The Alderley Edge mines were mined from the Bronze Age (c. 4000 years ago) until the early 20th century.

Most of the mines are still accessible although many surface features have been obscured by vegetation over the years.

Many of the mines are owned by the National Trust and have been leased by them to the Derbyshire Caving Club which maintains access and continues to explore the network for areas of mining that have been closed for centuries.

The day will start with West Mine which is dry and should give a good 4 hours exploration. We can then drop down through either Field Shaft or Brinlow and boat through to Engine Vein.

A quick bump for this event also. Still ages off, but there are plenty of spaces left. Well worth seeing. And to answer a question I've been asked about the trip a few times since it was posted up, no SRT kit required 🙂

This meet is looming now :)

Can probably fit another couple of people in if anybody else wants to go.

Should be an excellent day, and given it's with the DCC very informative to.

OK, herewith the details for this Saturday's (22nd August) trip to Alderley Edge copper mines.

Firstly, again, thanks to the DCC for providing this event to us.

Plan is to spend the morning in West Mine, and hopefully through Brinlowe and to the boats and out via Engine Vein.

Meet up between 9.30 and 10.00 here http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=the+wizard+inn,+alderley+edge&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=14.484393,33.881836&ie=UTF8&ll=53.291813,-2.211725&spn=0.000893,0.002068&t=h&z=19&iwloc=A . The club hut is the small white hut opposite the Wizard pub.

See you all there

This seems like a brilliant trip. But this date is not possible for me. So if you might have another trip planned at a later date I would be very much interested.

Sadly I shall be away this weekend, so unable to make it, home ground as well, if your'e going through Brylow in the boats put your cameras in a water proof container, just incase!!

I tipped the canoe over last I went in it, now I only travel by bath tub!!
The management thanks you for your co operation.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
