The last tiple I had underground was when I was given a swig of some strong liqueur by Simon before I went down the first absiel at Croesor. It certainly stopped my legs from shaking.

Just a quick bump for this :)

Meeting at 11am tomorrow morning, in the pub car park http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=52.97516&lon=-3.274061&z=15.5&r=0&src=msl at Glyndyfrdwy.

It's on the left hand side of the road travelling in the Corwen to Llangollen direction and is a couple of hundred yards from the turning up to the mine.

Equipment needed: helmet, cap lamp, torch & backup, suitable clothing, wellies (preferable) or boots. SRT equipment required includes a harness, ascenders and a descender, plus cowstails.

Food and a warm drink should be considered essential kit, given the likely cold temperatures and trip duration.

Duration: likely to be around 6+ hours until everyone is on the surface, starting around 12 noon. We will probably split into two groups to get out, to avoid too much of a logjam and also to give a bit more time to the photographers.

I've eventually surfaced after an extra-long lie-in. What a great trip that was, especially the bridge and the little tunnel full of sludge. And as for the jumaring, I just wish I'd had a bit more practice. Over the years I've done a good many roped glacier crossings, carrying prussik loops and expecting to be able to climb back out if I fell in a crevasse. Now I have a better understanding of the difficulties I face if I do ever fall into one !
I was interested to see the geological layout of the strata at Moel Fferna and the different mining practices have led to the mine having a vastly different character to Cwm Orthin. There were places in Fferna where the sheer smooth monolithic uprights and vast even, sweeping ceilings reminded me of the temple at Luxor.
So, many, many thanks to leaders/organisers and hoping to see you all on another trip sometime soon.

Another brilliant trip, thanks to Simon and Vanoord. Fascinating seing the huge near horizontal chambers in all levels which are very different to the angular veins at Blaenau Ffestiniog.
But most interesting is the fact that when the slate is exposed to water and air it slowly disintigrates into dust, especially outside and in the adits near to enterances.
Great crowd, and thanks to Lister for the whisky for our tea.
