AGGH that's a shame about Milwr, somewhere I wanted to see.

Si, hows about Drws y Coed?? you've still got to show me drainrats amazing blue crystal flow - and there are those unplmmed bits that we had a look into a couple of years back.

I think there is a small through trip here ..
Was going to look at it after handing in but its going to be a while.
There is also a snowdon (before that gets gated if it isnt already)

Are you mended yet??

heard that you'd broken yourself.

will be up later in the autumn, when I can find a spare weekend.

So far then we have, idea wise..

Moel Fferna - SRT (maybe ladders)
Penarth - non SRT
Drws y Coed - SRT (and not a huge mine, although there are others in the area)
Box - hopefully one of a few more outside of North Wales
Hendre Spar - instead of Milwr :(

Any other suggestions welcome, and any more outside of North Wales equally so!
my orders are to sit here and watch the world go by

Um. What's happened to Milwr then? I've been out of the loop for a few years, but have been down Olwyn Goch a couple of times.

If a small handful of AN members in the SE want to get together and visit the Chaldon Stone Quarries, I'll happily lead a trip on a Saturday or Sunday. No fighting your way up a mountain, or getting lost in the mist. A 1 minute walk from the side of the road!

Moel Fferna for SRT people, Penarth for non-SRT, or
Take electron ladders (not my idea that, a group went recently and used them - although I would still want to rope people not used to ladders)

Yes, we were a small experienced team, we used ladders to save every one carting srt gear & ropes. It worked great for us, but I would reccomend sticking to SRT from a safety point of view 😉

I can supply 3 x 25' electron ladder for such a trip.

Thanks Dave.

Maybe a Llangollen area trip in the near future then? December? Moel Fferna for those happy with SRT / ladders (roped!) and Penarth for those not?

Can't make December 6/7 or 13/14 I'm afraid.

If Moel Fferna is on the agenda I would not mind having a dig with a pick and shovel for the short tunnel that joined the b.o.d. addit that was there when we visited in 1993ish.

OK here's one that may be more central for many. How about Alderley Edge Copper Mines? Definitely a contender IMHO. Do we have any DCC contacts??
BTW not wishing to state the obvious but any choice will be too far for some. I know its not an issue but it might be easier to have regional "meets" with the an open invitation (if there are spaces) for those prepared to travel. Or is this is what is happening anyway??

Peter.

Moel Fferna seems to be popular!

I would suggest that this is kept restricted to people who have prior experience of SRT - and in particular ascending. If there are a couple of people who are not SRT-experienced who want to come along, then the option of a (roped) electron ladder can be added.

Reason for this being that there have been trips to Moel Fferna which have included a number of non-SRT experienced people which have consequently taken several hours to get out of the mine...

EDIT: trip planned for Sunday 28th December 2008 - http://www.aditnow.co.uk/community/viewtopic.aspx?t=1992

The events calendar is filling up again. Vanoord is arraning an SRT day prior to December's Moel Fferna trip and the Colonel has extended an open invite for an SRT trip to Coniston.

I'll set up some more beginner trips next year.

Your point about regional meets is a good one Toadstone, Alderley Edge would be accessible to many. I'm conscious that if we do too many 'official' trips that it'll be hard to get enough people to attend (perhaps one every 2 months would be good for now) but if anybody wants to lay on a trip local to them please do feel free!

With the Coniston trip having dissapeared off the Calender due to no specific date being set, Simon if you'd like to go is there any weekend that'd best suit you?
I probably in Scotland the weekend after next, so any other than that I suppose really.

Also, maybe at easter-time (ish) we were thinking of maybe going up on a long train journey to Tyndrum to have a look at the lead mine there, and possibly Cononish gold mine if one can be sorted. I've never been here before by the way.
