Dear all,

I was looking through the mine entries and noticed there is no page for Luckett mine.I know I can creat one and I do have picture that I can upload once I have scanned them, but they are all pictures of the engine houses. This is a very large and interesting site for surface features and was once a huge mine,it was re-opened during the second world war.The pumping engine house is especially interesting as it was reinforced to take a bigger engine during its life, also most of the engine houses the crusher and the pumping house still have their roofs and some internal beams.

Does anyone have any underground pictures of Luckett??I checked up H.G.Dines for the location of the adit, but when I went to the site I could not locate it,I think it has been filled as I found a very wet area with a stream running out of it at what I worked out to be its location,we all know what Dines is like, some of the older mines are laid out in nautical terms, distances, compass directions etc!!

Luckett had its machinery still in its engine houses right up until the second world war, when as usual it was scrapped, shame really as there was some good kit there.

Can you let me know if you have any underground pic's of this location please??All the shafts at this location have unfortunately been filled I notice.

Thanks,Stew.

A search on Google came up with the Trevithick Society page http://www.trevithick-society.org.uk/industry/mines.htm  which suggested Lucket is New Consols http://www.trevithick-society.org.uk/industry/newconsols.htm

Not sure if this is the case though, if it is, New Consols is on here, but sadly no photos as yet.
my orders are to sit here and watch the world go by

Thanks for the reply Simonrl,

I forgot that Lucett was double t,but yes that is the place, there are few old photo's of the place and I dont think there are any of it working. There are so many mines in that area, and I rhink they changed ownership and name on a very regular basis!!

Luckett as you drive down into it from kit hill (it is in its own valley) has a row of houses on the left side of the road along with a post office etc, with the vast mine site to the rear of them, these houses were originally built by the mine for the workers along with the school.

I will get round to doing those pics soon from a visit there in 1998 or thereabouts,

Thanks,Stew.
