Hello

I've just joined this forum. I am interested in Chopwell Colliery as my family (The Robsons) used to work in that Pit, living in the village of Chopwell itself.

I am in the process of developing a family hostory blog and want to post info/link to places like the pit that my family can learn more about.

Hi Krun,
Welcome to the forum. Not alot on here about Chopwell yet, although I did post one archive picture I found as a postcard.
I expect you've found it already but Durham Mining Museum is good for coal mines.http://www.dmm.org.uk/colliery/c004.htm
If you find anything interesting yourself we'd love for you to post it here.
Cheers Sparty

Chopwell, commonly known as 'Little Moscow' because of the very left-wing politics of the miners.

Yes, I'll have it - what is it?

In the twenties Chopwell miners stayed out longer than anyone else and endured some hellish hardships and at the end of it had to go back to work for less than they got before, but through this time they received food parcels from russian miners.
