Gypsum, Graphite, Clay, Salt and Potash could all be relevant for England
and maybe Granite, Chrome, Mica in Scotland

I was disappointed when I read this thread because I thought you'd made some important discoveries in the field of Mineralogy.

What about treacle?

Surely everyone has heard of the famous Cobham Treacle Mines? 😉

Treacle and pot noodle have been in the database from day 1 🙂 But commented out so they can't be added or searched for - for obvious reasons, the site would fill up with treacle mines!

Ho hum.

http://webmineral.com/Alphabetical_Listing.shtml

So granite is not a mineral (it's an igneous rock, which is a mixture of different minerals), but wolframite is. And did you know there were (and are) helium mines, in Amarillo, Texas. But helium isn't a mineral either. And nor is Formica (contd. on page 94).

I suspect I could refer to them all as 'product' and neatly work around it 🙂

No problem Mr H :)

I'll do it later today. Has anybody got any other new minerals (products!) they'd like to see added while I'm at it?

'Blue John' is needed for literally one mine in Derbyshire! I dont know if its a mineral or rock (does anybody really care)? its what the miners were after that matters!

Bath Stone...? You may just as well add "roofing slate", or "paving sandstone"... Bath stone is just limestone. And Blue John is fluorite. With nice colours. Perhaps we should have a mineral called "nice looking"? By calling the them (the mines near Castleton) fluorite mines, you'd be sensibly classifying them with all the other fluorite mines in the northern Pennines, and the "mineral type" would actually mean something. You're all hopeless, words fail me etc. etc. chiz chiz moan drone (contd pp94)...
