New feature today... when viewing an album and if more than one person has contributed to the album then a drop-down menu will appear automatically (just above the small versions of the photographs) allowing you to switch between viewing all photographs or only photographs from specific members.

I've been meaning to add this for ages, but as more people are contributing now it made sense to introduce it.

Hope it proves useful πŸ™‚ And helps credit the people who contribute photographs to this site.

Fixed a bug with the top rated photo of the month, it was only rating photos uploaded and voted on for the month in question rather than all photos voted on in the month.

I've modified the photograph rating / vote system so people can no longer vote for their own photographs in order to fake photo of the month etc.

Five 5* ratings on the same photograph from the same user_id as the photo was uploaded by does not go unnoticed πŸ˜‰

Just fixed a bug when uploading to certain albums where there is more than one mine of the same name.

Good example, Bryneglwys, there are two Bryneglwys in the database and the system got confused as to which it was uploading the photo to.

Fixed now.

Have just added in excess of 500 new mines, each with an Archive and User album courtesy of member LeeW.

Many thanks for the data LeeW.

As part of this I've written a bulk import script that takes data from a simple spreadsheet, imports it, creates the mines, the albums, links them all together and credits the whole lot to the member who provided the data.

If anybody has any appreciable quantities of mines to add in one go (perhaps 50 upwards, to make the script setup worthwhile) then I would be happy to make the spreadsheet available and sort out the import.

I've added a new feature, the Mining Document Library... http://www.aditnow.co.uk/library/mining-library.aspx

Basically this lists out all the documents in the database and orders them by type (survey, trip report etc).

Reasons for adding this are two-fold, firstly somebody asked (thank you, I had nothing left to add!) and secondly it makes it easier to find documents than going to the mine or mine then album.

Some really inspirational reading has been uploaded recently, thank you to the contributors.

Lots more documents now to fill the library up please πŸ™‚

Added the final bit of the side-wide security model for the Regional Editors system. All regional editors can now edit any mine in the database in order to tag them to Major Mining Regions.

From this point on I think I'm just left with:

- Personal Documents (non-mine specific)
- Gear Reviews

Also have some videos to upload.

And then it should just be routine maintenance and occassional new features. I really can't think of anything left to add!

The Personal Files feature is now completed.

Look under 'My AditNow.co.uk' for 'Personal Files', just under 'Personal Album'.

This is where non-mine specific documents live, anything relevant from white papers to gear reports etc etc. Anything mine specific can people continue to tag to the relevant mine or album please.

The Personal Files page works pretty much like the Minng Document Library, it will list out all documents you've uploaded under the 5 document headings (trip reports, surveys etc).

All documents uploaded to your Personal Files page will automatically appear both on your Personal Files page and visible to other members, and on the Mining Document Library page. All security levels are factored in when displaying files to other members so secure files won't be offered to members without the required security level.

All members have a Personal Files page.

You'll also find all members' Personal Files pages linked from their profile page, and against their forum postings - in fact from all the same places that Personal Albums are linked from.

Have fun with it.

I'm pretty sure it's bug free, but as this is my second night in a row where I've worked till 2am I can't guarantee it. PM me with any problems πŸ™‚

I've tweaked the Major Mining Regions system today so that if a mine is assigned to a MMR then it is shown on the mine details page (the page each mine has where all the albums and documents are linked from) as a UK map with the area highlighted.

The name of the Major Mining Region will display underneath and links to the region mine/quarry list out page.

The screen shot below shows Coniston copper mine, indicating it is in the North West and with the link below the map to all mines in the Lake District MMR:

I've also added some more forum moderation tools including facility for moderators/administrators to move topics between forums.

By midday tomorrow some new features should be online... photo widgets for sorting and ordering photos in albums and a facility to view all photos for a mine, without listing them by album.

Various new features and a fair chunk of new data has gone online today. See relevant posts for details.

Will post again when these are done.

After tomorrow I'll have to take a bit of a break from adding new features to the site for a month or so as the need to earn some money has arisen!

Photo Widgets are now in place:

Allows you to select which member you want to view photos from (where more then one member has submitted to an album) and also specify the order (newest first / oldest first) as well as how many you want to see on a page.

Hot on the heels of Photo Widgets on the regular album pages I've added the facility to view all photos for a mine. This gets around the issue some people have reported of having to look through multiple albums (however the photo search function can be used to find photos without going via the albums).

On each mine home page you'll find a block, just above the albums containing the text.

Click here to view all photos from all albums for Name of Mine.

Click the link and you'll get a page showing all photos from all albums for that mine. Warning, some of these pages may take a long time to load as some mines have in excess of 200 photographs.

It is by design very simple, no paging of photographs, no facility to show only a certain member's photographs etc. All of that is on the normal album pages. This is just a straight forward list of all photographs to make it easy to see them all on one page.

The navigation back from the full size photo is also tweaked so it knows whether to direct you back to the album or the all photos page.

I'm going to take a bit of a break (4 to 6 weeks) from adding new features to the site now. Although I'll be doing any bug fixes, minor tweaks etc as normal. We've just reached the point now where I think I've added pretty much everything I can usefully add and it's time to let the membership and content build up, so I want to spend a bit of time on site promotion rather than build.

😞

It's been pointed out the order by newest/oldest photo widget doesn't work properly, and confuses the forwards/backwards through the album.

I'm temporarily taken it down and will try to get it fixed by the end of the week.

Sorry!

It must be Friday afternoon, it's new feature time.

First up this is only available to admins and Album Editors, but for those this applies to... when you upload a new photo you can opt to have it replace the original photo used to illustrate the album.

Similarly, admins and Album Editors can edit any photograph within albums and tick the box to replace the photo used to illustrate the album with any photo already in the album.
