New features added today:

- 'Remember Me' facility added to log in (you can choose 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year or forever), no need to log in every time

- Site now only sends 1 notification of reply email until you revisit the topic (stop people being bombarded with emails)

- Reply link added to each post (thanks Vanoord)

Still to do:

- Searching

- User profiles (including avatars and forum profiles)

- Visual indicators for new topics/posts since your last visit (will become more important as (or if) the forum gets busier

- Restricted access forums (by security level) and sticky topics etc

- Polls

- Private messaging (if there's demand)

- 'Mines near this mine' feature on right hand side of mine details pages

- Ability for moderators to delete posts

- Moderation tools, moderators can add highlighted notes to explain moderation, and moderated posts can no longer be edited by the original poster

New features added today:

- Personal Albums

Personal Albums are where you can upload photographs not necessarily linked to a specific mine or location. For example, for inclusion in forum postings or just to share with other AditNow users.

Look for the 'Personal Album' link in the left hand menu under the 'My AditNow.co.uk' heading.

Only you can upload to your Personal Album, and uploading is exactly the same as uploading to normal albums.

You can set security on each photograph exactly as you can with photographs in normal albums.

Other users' Personal Albums can be viewed by clicking on the link under their username in any forum posting, or from their Profile page (when completed).

Fully expect to see Vanoord's annual sunflower saga develop over the coming months!

I've never really liked using moderation tools where moderation isn't needed. Like editing somebody's post to make a link clickable. Using the moderation function and having 'moderation' appear seems a bit heavy handed. So welcome 'tweaks'.

[tweak]And this is a tweak - for when a post could benefit from a minor change without the negative connotation of moderating[/tweak]

Allowing member to member communication to be sent securely. Messages are only visible to the sender and recipient and email address are not disclosed.

- Member List

Lists out all members, username only, when they joined, post count etc, and provides easy and quick links to view members personal albums, profiles and send private messages.

Look for the 'Community Forum Links' section in the left hand column. This only appears on Community Forum pages, i.e. all forum pages and private message pages. It doesn't appear on mine, mine search, album, photo or admin pages.

- Searching

Look for the Search link in the left hand side Community Forum Links menu (only appears on forum pages).

Allows you to perform searches where any or all words are matched, or where the entire search string is matched, in specific forums and within message subjects/message text/both.

Doesn't have a few of the additional searches some forums have such as search by member of search by date - but be nice, I'm writing all this from scratch 😢

Still to do:

- User Journals (a pox on you Nimrod for continually finding me more work!)

- User profiles (including avatars and forum profiles)

- Visual indicators for new topics/posts since your last visit (will become more important as (or if) the forum gets busier

They work as you'd imagine, look for the Member Journal forum in the forum index. All members are very welecome to create a journal and only you will be able to reply to your journal.

Well, at least you can now add one, see the left hand menu for My Account & Profile. You can now upload an avatar and add a signature as well. Hooyeahh.

The page that actually displays the profile will be finished by the end of today (Friday 18th May).

New features added today (to the web site rather than the forum:

'Show all Mines' page (see the main left hand menu), this lists all mines in the database so hopefully will be a handy starting point for people looking for a mine.

The list can be refined to show only those mines with content, and return a count of albums, photos, notes, votes and documents.

Gimmicks 🙂 Top rated photo for the month, kind of like 'photo of the month', and a random pick photo - both displaying on the main home page.

As described in previous post

- View all photos for a member

Linked from the forum view topic page (with the send PM, view personal album etc) and from each member's profile page - handy way of pulling up all photos posted by a member

- Direct links to forum from mines, albums and photos

Each mine, album and photo now has a direct link to the forum, click it and you'll be sent to the post a new message page; the correct forum will be pre-selected and the mine/album/photo name automatically entered into the subject line (which you can of course change)

A few tweaks today:

1) Image searching

This has been improved, now (hopefully!) much more useful... it is now returning a full set of images for any given search, so search Cwmorthin as an example and it returns all images in all Cwmorthin albums rather than just all images with Cwmorthin in the name or description.

2) Home page - Mines with content

Re-ordered to be by ascending alphabetical order (thanks to Nimrod and Vanoord for suggesting this)

3) Home page - Latest 20 documents

The home page now has a block of the latest 20 documents to be uploaded. Means new documents are easier to find than having to go to the mine and see if there is anything new.

Thanks Nimrod for suggesting this, and for uploading lots of interesting documents 🙂 🙂 Appreciated.

New facility added today:

LightBoxes

These allows you to side-by-side compare two or more photographs. Underneath each photograph in an album (and under the photograph when you view the larger version) you'll see an 'add to lightbox' link.

You can create as many LightBoxes as you wish, all will be saved for you and accessible from the 'My LightBoxes'.

If you select 'public' when you create a new LightBox then the LightBox will be available to other AditNow members from the 'Public LightBoxes' link in the main left hand menu.

I've created a quick example showing the view from the Tuxford incline at Foty past and present.

Hopefully this will be a useful feature for comparing shots past and present as well as taken using different techniques or to verify locations and so forth.

Just to clarify one point I've been asked - you can put anybody's photographs into your LightBoxes, not just those you've uploaded yourself.

There's been an upgrade of the private message system today.

Previously if either the sender or recipient deleted a private message then that message disappeared from both the sender's Sent Items and the recipient's Inbox.

So if I sent Vanoord a PM and Vanoord deleted it from his Inbox after reading it, the message also disappeared from my Sent Items. Which if I wanted to keep a copy of it wasn't very logical :curse:

What this has meant is you might now see some previously deleted private messages in your Inbox or Sent Items as the old deleted=y value is no longer used. Please feel free to delete them, safe in the knowledge that the deletion is now specific to you and doesn't automatically delete it for the other party as well!

At the suggestion of JohnearCfon and Vanoord I've tweaked the facility for automatically embedding images in a forum posting.

If you click the 'click here to discuss the photograph in the forum' now, then as well as automatically selecting the right forum and displaying the image it will automatically link the image. So if you then click on it the original full size image will open in a new window - from where you can navigate back to the album and then to the mine.
