I am brand new to this forum. My interests are the three collieries that were in my home town of Featherstone. For a start - how do I get the heading altered? "Coal" should not be there and "(mine)" is superfluous.

The headings cannot be altered as its the way the site is set up as general headings, as it covers all types of mine and quarry. eg, a site could be a mine or a quarry, or putting it another way, they are predefined grouping levels.
Best as I can explain it, but do agree that it can look odd.

Anyway, welcome to aditnow.

Easiest way to find them is to type in just the first bit of the mine name and nothing else.
"Ackton", "Featherstone","Snydale" etc.

your document on Featherstone's three collieries is a very good resume of the Pits. However there is a book by Eddie Downes called Yorkshire Collieries 1947 to 1994, which may hold some further information. (If you can get hold of a copy). There may be one in the Mining Museum Library.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
