We have a dream to move the Nenthead Eimco undercover with the ultimate intention of getting it back to some semblance of working condition.

With this in mind does anyone out there have any useful info on the 12B, like manuals, parts lists, exploded diagrams? Most important is how to disengage the drive so the wee beastie can be moved without a heavy lift - I find it difficult to get a crane through a doorway these days...::)
Don't look so embarrassed, it's a family trait...

That might prove to be somewhat of a conundrum for the industrial archaeologists of the future! 🙂

IIRC, there was a drive pin somewhere that you knocked out to disengage the wheels from the motor.
Mind you, it was over 30 years ago and the brain has had a lot of pickling since then.
Does this jog anyones memory?

There might be some useful stuff on this page:

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/result.html?sort=relevance&srch=top&query_txt=eimco&submit=&patents=on

You'll need to check the PDFs for the drawings.

There is a pin between the two wheels on one side that you move, inside a circular housing. If I remember it was a short pin on a cam that you moved up or down and that then pulled a lever underneath somewhere.

On the opposite side to the controls, between the wheels, is a small foot operated lever, which by way of a small cam, engages and disengages the drive - allowing the shovel to free wheel and be propelled along the track by a locomotive or whatever means available.

We have a 12B at Lea Bailey Light Railway - we have the rocker mechanism working (as demonstrated in a YouTube Video:
?list=PLZWKiKiRxGhHCMxGwuTI5LIHSRwUDOjVY) but the propulsion mechanism is still being worked on.

Our Chairman, Rob Needham has a copy of the brochure / instruction manual for the rocker shovel which we were looking at on Sunday. It even has diagrams of how to lay the track inside your mine for efficient operation. I shall PM you his e-mail address so you can request a copy.

I might well take you up on that...

We discovered that the clutch works at the weekend, now the interesting bit is to get it undercover, all the more difficult as no chance of undoing any bolts.

Further on the subject of the Nenthead Eimco, does anyone happen to have a good picture of the name plate on the side? Somebody has very kindly (:curse:) removed it & it would be nice to see what it said...

To take up the point regarding the Rogerly mine Elmco, at the start of this years mining, the said machine suffered a major break down and was out of use for about a month.
Cal & Jesse managed to obtain the necessary spares for it, and when I saw it in mid August it was working as good as ever!
Nick I am absolutely certain that they would provide you with info on how to get the engine back to life!
I had not realised until they told me that it was made indirectly by the Atlas Copco co.and that they have the necessary spares!
All the more surprising really when I was told of the age of it!
