Can anyone point me to information about the nineteenth century chronology of building Explosives Magazines. At Bentyfield Mine in Cumbria, there is an explosives store building which looks like the standard square magazine with the remains of wood panelling fixed by wood pegs to the stone walls. I can see that the Explosives Act 1875 regulated the storage of gunpowder - it would be useful to know whether there were any regulations before that Act. Magazine design in the North Pennines appears to be to a vaguely similar size - is this coincidence or is there some legal reason for the size and shape?

I am sure Brian Earl wrote a book about mining explosives, sorry but I don't have a copy.

Cornish Explosives pehaps?
We inhabit an island made of coal, surrounded by a sea full of fish. How can we go wrong.......
