I am trying to acquire as much information as possible about Marley Hill colliery , especially images of the immediate surrounding area of the colliery ,eg: the colliery yard , the underground fires that used to smoke, infact any part of the terrain , including the rows of houses next to the colliery yard up until it closed down.I used to live next to the colliery many years ago and would like to give a better picture of what it used to be really like to my grandkids one of which is studying mining at university. Any help or information would be gratefully appreciated .

You've probably thought of this already, but the archives held at Beamish Museum are very, very extensive, and given that Marley Hill Colliery is a virtual neighbour, I would expect that the Beamish photo archive would have some of the material you need. From memory, the archive isn't available at weekends but a call to the Archivist on Monday should help you along the way.

All the best,
Regards, Alec
