As soon as it arrives I'm off to a large slate chamber or two to see if it helps focussing :thumbsup:

Will post up a report when it arrives and I've had chance to test it.

Laser pointer (finally) arrived today (moral, don't order stuff from eBay from people with less than 95% positive feedback). Shall give it a test underground tonight...

I use a green laser for difficult moments, Works perfectly on a nikon D60 underground and a nikon D300s on the surface.

Have had a play with the laser pointer a few times, and it does work 🙂 As long as the camera can get a fix on it and there isn't too much moisture / dust in the air (causing scatter) focussing in big chambers is now a lot easier!

Vanoord took an entirely laser-lit photo in {censored} the weekend before last, no doubt he'll get round to uploading it any year soon :tongue:

They were header images? You should have said. I just thought you'd made and emailed me a set of photos because you thought they looked pretty :lol:

Have done some infra-red on the surface (very long exposures), would be very interested to try laser light underground...

Bought a green laser for a fiver on ebay for focussing - seems insanely bright for 1mW. Saw some 200mW green lasers for £23 !!

5mW, was about £15 IIRC, but to be honest other than the sticker it looks no different to the 1mW ones!

It really is a handy focussing aid - the green photo was just Mr Vanoord insisting on having a play :lol:

Note the strange effect with areas that are in shadow - the lack of scatter (and presumably lack of reflection) keeps them in complete darkness, making interpretation rather different.

Van's pic has given me an idea for extreme laser lighting for use in photography.

I spent about 15 years working with lasers, and scanner control systems - if you were to get a white light laser, and a XY scan system you could basically illuminate a small or large area very easily, it would be like a very precise form of light painting.

The scanner would create a series of lines scanned say left to right (like a CRT TV picture), illuminating everything, whilst the camera is set on long exposure.

Humm, I've got scanner already and lots of green lasers, might be worth a try some time as an experiment.
