may i admit, when i saw it last (december 2007 i believe) i considered picking it up as it was in 2 halves, on the floor, i was sure i heard that the site owner has retrieved it,believe i heard that from spartylea???

i may have my wires crossed however.

No, they were told what had happened but as far as I know nothing was done and now its gone.
The whole site is such a mess now and with all these plans for the cement works site I wouldn't be surprised if pressure was brought to bear so that the whole lot will end up 'tidied up' overnight. If you want any pics of what is left I'd get there soon. 😞

Drove up the dale a couple of weeks ago and was going to stop at Cambo to take a couple of photos but the place looks like a fly-tippers paradise. With both the County and Wear Valley Councils now pushing the tourist angle I agree that it will probably only be a matter of time before the whole place is "tidied" i.e. obliterated and landscaped. Pity ! 😞

Nice shot of the date stone

[photo]Cambokeels-Lead-Mine-Archive-Album-Image-90015[/photo]

Was it ever retrieved ?
Hidden in June 2008, where now ?

Very little left there these days, I took some people to see the winding drum to find it was gone llast year.
