There's a video kicking about somewhere with a bit in it of Malcolm on a machine with a bucket full of sloppy concrete riving about on a pile of muck putting in founds for the tippler.

Is it commercially available, ? really love anything to do with Cambo, and id particularly like to see the place while it was under development,

Was a lot of the concrete on site hand batched? always thought building the tipple would have been done by a specialist company.

Its part of an old TV program, 'Old Life in New Veins' made when demand for fluorspar sparked a mining revival in Weardale. Somebody put it on a DVD for me a couple of years back. I'll see if I can find it and make a copy.

Dont know, but I doubt any outsiders were involved, the concrete for the bays was full of bits of old an old ball mill from what I remember.

There was also a documentary made by Granada called (I think) There`s Gold in Those Hills with lots of underground shots of both Cambo and Cornish Hush. 🙂

I was always wondering why those balls were all down there. I thought they were just tipped from somewhere else. Thats a great photo by the way, I've never seen pics of it when it was a working mine.

Its a lovely clear pic of the eimco, but it hadn't started up yet surely, where's all the 'steam'.

Do you know if there are any copies of the Granada video about anywhere, I'd like to see that one.

Hi Sparty, Yes it was a staged photo for a SAMUK brochure, in fact I was crouching behind the Eimco with a flashgun,it was part of a whole series of photos taken at the time, including the one of me driving the loco on the 200 level, the negs which were the property of SAMUK I think must have gone to head office in Zurich, which is a pity because as well as Cambo there were lots of Stanhopeburn as well. I haven`t been able to find a copy of the Granada film after many years of looking. If you do manage to find the DVD with Fangio on it, could I please beg a copy from you.
