I know some of you may consider a post such as this a bit "anorak-ery' but for those of us of a slightly more senior disposition waxing lyrical over such topics comes with age !

With todays readily accessible photographic and video equipment and LED technology, it is relatively easy to produce mini films that are reasonably presentable on the small computer. The only restricting parameters being the imagination of putting it together, the time to do it and suitable subject matter with easy access.

So with that in mind here is a mini film combining aspects of video and photography without using helicopters, flash or fancy expensive cameras. The post production software too is relatively inexpensive. In the very near future I hope to include macro, high speed and underwater sequences.

You'll need Quicktime installed in your browser.

Very small edition approx 3mb

Better version but still for the web 20mb approx

And for those who have an iPhone/iPod or use iTunes. 15mb

I hope this post will spur some of you to have ago. I'm sure there is better work out there.

Peter.

Thanks Adam, Simon.

Yes that wasn't really a fleece type trip was it  There's a puddums trip in a couple of weeks time which may be similar in depth of wetness ?Adam any inside gen on that. I think I may have to invest in a new wet suit, the old one being far too small.

I'm trying out the video facility on the G7 seeing as I've got this underwater housing. So far above ground tests are very encouraging. OK not for the big screen but more than acceptable on the computer.

Chasecam with the Sony cam head is however the DB's. Someone mentioned to me awhile back that they have model ROV's at places like the sea life aquarium in Plymouth? I wonder if they have a spare one?

But aggghh, the price 🙂 I think I'd need a very stiff drink before placing an online order for those two...

Dog Cam do a picture in picture package as well with two of the Sony cam heads, I think NASA landed a man on the moon for less 😉

I think that's a trip into Deep Ecton rather than Clayton, if it's a PDMHS one - long since booked up, I'm afraid! Deep Ecton level is usually less wet than Clayton, as it doesn't have any blockages to back the water up. That reminds me, I need to chase on the possibility of a visit for ANMHS!

Stuff me sideways,

Toadstone, that's some mighty impressive work there, I like the airel shots, done from a kite as I recall.

All that vid needs is some form of soundtrack (IMO) to make it complete, but I don't know what to suggest - masters of the universe perhaps??

Thanks Wormster, yes all the aerials are from the kite.

Sound - I have to admit I'm having problems with that. On 2 fronts. Firstly the aerial sequences are soundless anyway. Secondly the iMovie HD software seems to scramble the sound track when I include a transition from one scene to another. This could be my fault as I'm only learning to use the software.

I could of course use music and narrative but both of these require a good knowledge of use, which is why they are disciplines in their own right in film making, something I'm going to have to learn all about to take it further. But you are quite right it does need sound.

Its too late for this year but by next year I should have enough footage etc to compile something for the Hidden Earth event mentioned by Moorebooks. There is a video/media section up for the taking. Sadly and I understand why there is a 2 week deadline for entries under 10 mins and 4 weeks for 20 mins. As the event is this weekend I'll have to wait till next year.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
