Hi all.
May I briefly introduce my self. My Name is Ferdinand Haberl, I am from Austria and I am studying Documentary Directing at the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield. we got the exercise to shoot a 10 to 15 minutes documentary about a subject we, re interested in, and because my grandfather was a miner I
decided that I would like to shoot a little filme about miners, their work and who they are, because I think it needs a certain type of strong personality to do
that work, especially when thinking about the risks involved.
I think, that people, working under these conditions, no sunlight, heavy work and certain risk, deserve to be pictured somehow, especially because of the long tradition of mining. Picturing real working men, reallife and not that kind of glamour and movie star stuff is my aim and that's why I feel I should realise a project about mining.
What I want to ask now is, if you could maybe give me some
informations about who I have to contact for getting the permission for shooting in a mine and maybe what the policy of the involved companies concerninga bit of filming is.
Or does anybody know a person working in a mine of person owning a mine, who would give me the permission to film.
I have also heard about mine explorers or even cave explorers (That's quite far away from mining I know, but it might be pretty interesting from the historical aspect and also when thinking about people who want to work under the earth it makes kind of sence) and does maybe anybody who's profession is something like that?
I am interested in people, working men and I am coming from a working
mens background. Of course everybody could write something like that,
but I would agree not to publish the film, until having the
permission from the involved company or the involved people.
It would be really helpful, if you could give me some informations about filming in mines or maybe some ideas I have not thought of, some contacts or an interesting background story concerning mining. I have
heard for example, that the Welbeck mine might close down this June or something like that. If you could come up with some ideas or storys you thinks there should be a little documentary about, please feel free to contact me
(
[email protected]) or post it into the forum.
If you could help me in that case would be great, especially because I am in a little rush because I have to finish the filming process until 2th of April. So if somebody knows something, please contact me.
Many Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Ferdinand
