Does anybody here know of a good camera repair service. Last time I ever use my local shop. They've had my Nikon for over a month to replace a rubber eye cap and now don't know where it is!

Previous time they repaired something for me, they lost part of it :(

A reliable service I can send my battered and ham-fist abused kit off to would be excellent 🙂

Oh... yeah I know what you mean !! Camera shops seem to be staffed by blank looking school leavers with no product knowledge at all. I once tried to buy a camera at a local shop, but gave up in the end.

I once did get an autofocus lens repaired, I did a web search & found a great guy who did the job really fast and at a good price. It was a few years ago though. I'll see oif I can find his details.

Hi Colonel

Did you use this chap in the end to fix your 8400? Were they any good?

I want to send a couple 😞 off for repair / servicing, but would rather walk over broken glass than take them to the local camera shop...

Oh yes, hes very good. Used him a few times over the years. Getting parts can be a bit of a waiting game, but that is the same everywhere...

One just needs a jolly good clean, the other a very jolly good clean and a replacement bit or two...

Simon have you tried Nikons own repair centre at all, I think they are in surrey, or are they subbing out to small specialists now?
The management thanks you for your co operation.

You'll probably find that a lot of repairs nominally done as returns by manufacturers/suppliers are actually done by this outfit in Newcastle-under-Lyme:

http://www.johnsons-photopia.co.uk

Usual disclaimers - odd coincidence, I used to walk past it on the way to school, never went inside until the control dial fell off my Minolta a couple of years ago. Capable factory-standard repair done to a reasonable-ish set price, but took several weeks longer than estimated.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
