Mr Frank Shepheard who now owns this mine has been so kind as to allow a trip into the Blackburn Level this coming easter. We have a bi annual field meet there organised by the famous 'Mole'.
He is specifically interested in any plans or sections that may exist, and I promised to try. Unfortunately, I have had no sucess and only have what is in KC Dunham.
Can anyone help?

In the nicest possible way Roy, the original and famous Mole died a couple of years ago, this one shared the name and adopted it long after the original.

Imitation is the highest form of flattery.
There are 3 mine explorer websites, the public one, the northern one, and the one run by a grumpy old fosil.

Have you tried the Cumbria Record office? There must be an abandonment plan there somewhere.

I've a plan but its not very detailed, a copy from KCD's original vein plan with the flats, levels and geology marked on a topo.

Can let you have a copy but there's no section and, like I said its not very detailed, the abandonment plan would be much better if you can find where it is.

I have looked at my list for Whitehaven RO, there is no plan listed there for Rotherhope Fell Mine. Nothing in the Mining Institute either, but it may have not been cataloged yet - does anyone know if it was ever worked by LLC? if yes it could well be there.

Is Rotherhope Fell Mine in Cumbria or Northumberland?

I have a list, but its not available on the web. Anyone planning a visit there should check their website, due to reduction in staff it is not always open. It is best to avoid Saturdays (they are not open every Saturday) because there is only a skeleton staff on. Weekdays are best.

Are you going to try and pull some copies of these.
I dont mind putting effort into something, I expect everyone will believe that, but I live in Walsall.

I've got a copy of the abandonment blueprints of Rotherhope Fell mine from the Geology departement in Liege (Belgium) that still holds some records from the time the VM had its company seat there. A copy is currently on the way to be digitized by the BGS. Please E-mail me if you want a pdf file...

The Rotherhope Fell plans are uploaded and ready to view. All the necessary info is included on the file pages on the website. I want to add two remarks though:

1/ If anyone should decide to use it to do some exploring, will he/she please send me a trip report? I am curious as to the condition of the mine and some of its underground features...

2/ The plans are free for anyone to use in their research or personal document database. If you should decide to use it in a publication (partially or as a whole document), please notify me. There are no copyright restrictions that I know of, but the source of the archives might want to know what they are all used for...

Any comments are welcome ofcourse!

Nentsberry Haggs and Scraithole mineplans are next!

There is virtuall an all day meet scheduled for Easter Monday courtesy of the landowner Mr Frank Shepheard.
I have posted this before, but if anyone should want to turn up, can you please PM me.
I believe that Frank wants to get some ladders into the mine while we are on, so willing hands etc.

I was just wondering how the trip to Rotherhope went?

Very well, it was quite a party with a lot of well known 'names' turning up.
There may be another one, say next year.
