No, not much call for it in Cleveland though climbers seem to be happy enough to. In any event much prefer to use something properly bombproof like badly corroded bits of iron forced into shale or hundred year old planks of wood laid over hopper tops...

If it was necessary - yeah why not!

The joy of placing a bombproof ice screw 100 foot above your last dodgy tied off rock peg is one of life's great unsung pleasures.

The aprov, aplocv, approc (sod it) method of drilling two screw holes so they meet and can then take a threaded length of cord is good, but difficult to execute in a raging whiteout while hanging off an axe with one hand a couple of hundred feet off the deck.

It is however an excellent technique for retreating from a good ledge on a mountain, an action usually preceeded by erm....slight errors of personal judgement.

Abolokov..? is that a real name or made up? Sounds more like what might happen to you as a result of an anchor failure. 😮

A friend of mine has anchored in an ice cave on a 150m pitch and suffered a harness failure half way down due to abrasion and cold.

Now feeling your harness rip 100m above ground in -35 would focus the mind a little I think!

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
