Somewhat randomly(ish), when I read the comments that the miners had asked for sausages reminds me of comments I heard from José Henriquez in 2011 who was one of the miners trapped for 69 days (Chile in 2010), he said (through interpreter, I don't speak Spanish) that when they got finally contact through the small borehole they were literally starving and they were pleading for steak or soup or something but they only got sugary liquid they kept asking for real food but never got it, he knows it was doctor's advice but even still that decision was NOT to their satisfaction! When the translator was covering that bit José was shaking his head and gave a very pained look, you could really see from that look how deeply unimpressed they were! Apologies if that's in film or whatnot (I haven't seen it) and you already know that. Very interesting guy, even if he hadn't been trapped in a mine, he'd still have been a very interesting person.

Odd that this doesn't seem to have captured the imagination of the wider public in the same way the Chilean incident did. Perhaps there is too much else going on closer to home.

I wasn't aware that sausages were a traditional chinese meal? I guess the pschological value of a familiar meal would be pretty high in those circumstances.

Chinese seem to like a salami type dry cured sausage that can be steamed / stir fried. Loads of different types in the Chinese supermarkets - if you happen to live near one.

Seen them in Jason Hong in Peterborough, but have never purchased. Although they appear salami-like, they do apparantly taste distinct, and you can't really substitute European style dried sausages. Chinese New Year is the most popular time for sausages.

They have that 'Chinesey' flavour and some can be fatty. I use them in stir fries (fat renders out and you can pour it off), but also steamed with sticky rice - adds a nice flavor. Give them a go.

That's worrying, given that I read somewhere about rising water levels. Maybe the diagram on BBC is greatly simplified but it looks like a single pit in/out (unless the 2 air shafts mean more than 1 escape route) otherwise it echoes Hartley colliery which we've just had the 150th anniversary.

I suppose it was something different to run as headlines for a while; something apart from Covid 19. TV news editors must be tearing their hair out trying to fill all the hours of 'rolling news'. Turn it off and just give us an hour's update twice a day; that's my opinion :lol:

It was about the only TV I watched last week (apart from the news), and watched it all live. Tremendously exciting in my opinion, but then I do like the USA, much prefer its model of governance ('We the People' always had a nice ring to it) and I want it to succeed 🙂

They viewed the voting public as notoriously fractious and prone to believe all sorts of nonsense.

Extremely saddened by the China mine fatalities. Though I doubt the tragedy will make any significant difference to miners welfare.

With Trump unhinged yet possibly having a finger on the button right up to the inauguration, it was the best show in town. Who knew what circus act would be on next! Hereon I reckon it’ll be like watching paint dry while we observe Biden’s mental capacity decline to that of Reagan’s during his time.
