We're presently on the island of Alonissos in the Sporades. According to the locals, and a small exhibit in the local museum, there were chrome mines on the next island of Peristera, just a mile away. We're going over there tomorrow for the day.
Anyone, know any more about them, or where they were on this very small island?
Nobody can give us any more info, and can't find anything on the net.
Thanks in hope.

Presumably they will be easy to find as they will have very shiny spoil heaps?

sorry.

Walking guide, mentions where they are, albeit viewed from eastern side of Alonnisos. Great, this internet thingy. Was on Alonnisos in 1986, having taken a small ferry from Skopelos. Full of smokers chuffing on the Greek version of Navy Cut, rough sea; you can guess the rest but unhappy memories. Took the Flying Dolphin back and would have glady paid for a private jet if that had been the only option.

Thanks Boy engineer. Chris Browne is married to our holiday rep, so will also chat to him. BTW, Alonissos is now a really beautiful island. Been here 5 years running. Only regret, no mines so suffering withdrawal symptoms.
