It might be worth including 'Strontian' in the heading for this and Whitesmith mines so they are found easier in searches.

There is also Middleshope Mine
http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk/en/site/23122/details/strontian+middleshope+mine/

http://her.highland.gov.uk/SingleResult.aspx?uid=MHG325

(Don't sorry the pictures on the HER don't link to the full size versions because of a problem on the council computers)

There is Strontian Mines Inquest on the Moidart Local History Group website.

http://www.moidart.org.uk/datasets/strontianmine.htm

I have a few pictures around Middleshope which I will add to Bellsgrove as in the same area.

Hi Martin,
Useful stuff you have posted here.
What's the acess position now?
A few years ago Robert and myself were walking on the site when the guy who was working it for road stone was distinctly aggressive towards us.
We were not going underground just having a look around his attitude would put the Merrick smelter farmer to shame!

I didn't go into the site producing road stone / rubble / hardcore / whatever. I used to go there with my work but don't think I ever spoke to any of their people. The gate was locked yesteerday and no one around. I was just taking a few pictures around the area to add to Canmore and the HER, I did think of going up close to the adit and taking one right in it but did not have my welly boots with me.

Just to add my tupence worth, a few years ago I lived in the area and had a little explore. Got into the new workings briefly and found and old adit further along the road that leads to Loch Sheil. There had been a little roof fall and as I was by myself I went no further. Would love to return and explore a little more.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
