I am glad I am not the only one to choke on my tea when I heard this! Always the same in this country just look at thatching, Norfolk water reed anyone......no eastern european will do!

The planners should have more of a say in this although from my Local Government experience they can be the worst! Take a town in the east of England, we need bollards cast iron or granite.....yes granite from China. What has Chinese granite got to do with the architecture of eastern England!

I worked in a large office building a few years ago that was roofed with Asbestos free Slate effect tiles, over the years some went white!

One last point I drive a British car, Land Rover 90 for me! Big Grin

Better late than never
about 20 years ago i was working on a huge country house in Lincolnshire , the thatchers were charging £120,000 to re thatch this house using reed from i think it was Holland
The thatcher seemed to think that this was exactly the same reed as Norfolk as the seeds has floated across the channel and grown there
Anyway this enormous waggon and trailer arrived, it must have been 60ft long loaded to the sky with reed
The thatcher walked up to it pulled a handful out , snapped it ,
rolled it between his hands , turned to the driver and said "take it back"
