My father was a miner and worked at Babbington pit in Nottingham, it closed in 1986, being a miners son I am doing some research into the village of Lidice in the Czech Republic it was a mining community, the Germans sacked this village in 1942, and it is now a memorial centre.

I have read reports that the British miners raised funds to rebuild the village and a deputation British miners went to Lidice and tapped in a block of grey granite into the corner stone to mark the rebuilding of the village, this was documented by the Ludington Daily News in Michigan USA on the 16 of June 1947, also a film was made by British Coal in 1964 (Mining review 17/7 Czech Mates March 1964). I am trying to locate any original documentation that British Coal my have in their archives on the subject, if they have, how can acquire copies.?
Has anyone got any if about it

Some of the old British Coal archive footage has recently been released on DVD (see here http://www.aditnow.co.uk/community/viewtopic.aspx?t=3479 ) but not the snippet you're after unfortunately. The Coal Authority may still hold records (http://www.coal.gov.uk/services/history/miningheritagecentre.cfm ) or be able to suggest other places to try.

If all else fails try the People's History Museum in Manchester, a lot of trades union material has gone there including many of the NUM branch banners. Their collections remit certainly covers this topic. Note that they may be very slow in responding as they are in the last stages of moving into a new building so lots of stuff is packed away and so forth. Their web presence is here http://www.phm.org.uk/
