I put this in Scotland, even though the subjects in this UK Coal Review film are in various parts of the country, as the one part of it actually shot underground is in Stirlingshire. Enjoy.

Absolute gold...... well found.

The houses going up are interesting, if my memory serves me right some of these builds had large amounts of asbestos in them dependent on supplier as insulation and in the ceiling/wall boarding.... Some councils bought the this design.

The other great bit was the guy who even though the mine is mechanised has to jump on belt and smash a large lump up by hand.....

What a wonderful bit of film. The bit where the miner is standing on the panzer breaking up lumps reminded me of a Coal Board safety film from the late '70s, where the dangers of this practice were illustrated by an off camera scream and film of a boot and 'stump' riding out on the gate belt. Certainly concentrated the mind.

In our nostalgia I suppose we shouldn't forget the human cost associated with the industry. Not always a barrel of laughs.

My grandad told me about a bloke who got folded in half doing just this!
He had buckets of tales like that as did my other grandad, from the clay cross mines.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh Creeper!!!!!

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
