Welcome to the site!

I guess you've seen http://www.aditnow.co.uk/mines/Hillside-Whinstone-Mine/  but there's no grid reference there. Can anybody advise?

I have not been, but the description says that it's in Beecraigs Country Park, which is ngr NT 002 743.

If you do find it, please let me know the exact grid ref & i'll update the details.

Strange how the mine name is Hillhouse, but the archive & user album are Hillside????

This can happen when you go back and change the name of the mine. The change doesn't affect the albums. I'm a master at it. I take it that wasn't the case here?
The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

Probably one of the regional editors renamed the mine - but didn't rename the albums to match. If either is wrong let me know and I can rename accordingly.

Surely this would be a limestone mine? I know of no whinstone (quartz-dolerite) mines anywhere. Whinstone is generally quarried. There are a number of limestone mines in that general area, but the obvious rock exposures are the whinstone dykes and sills.

It is a limestone mine just to let you know 🙂

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
