"the area is popular with walkers and picnickers in the summer".

Don't think so, it's disussed & access is permitted as there's a public footpath right through it 😠

There are two public footpaths run through the site one of which is part of the Weardale Way a long distance footpath promoted by Durham County Council and access most certainly is allowed through the site.

I've removed the reference to picnicking in case it gives the impression the whole site is some kind of park.

My earlier post referring to red dash lines was said with my tongue in my cheek!

I hope Quarry Owner is still reading!

Thank you for your comments.

I would like to say that I actively encourage and support the use of public footpaths, and my comment was not in any way intended to deny walkers this right. In addition to promoting such walks I also provide B&B accommodation for walkers - see this www.tranquil-life.info

My concern was that the description could give the impression that the quarry was open for public access, a concept which has caused tremendous problems.

May I suggest specific reference is made to the public footpaths which run along the eastern and southern boundaries of the site.

Thank you for your cooperation, and I trust you will enjoy the beautiful walks in Weardale.

On my B&B website I am looking for a suitable URL link which descibes the geology of Weardale. If anyone could advise me I would appreciate the help.

Thanks for modifying the entry Sparty 🙂

QO - you suggest that the concept of access has caused "tremendous problems": could you shed a little light on this please? If there's anything we could do to help prevent such problems, it would be useful to know what they are.

Here are a couple of links which may be of use geology-wise:
