A caver who was rescued from a mine shaft in Edinburgh has died.
Peter Ireson, 37, from Livingston, died in hospital on Sunday evening after getting into difficulties on Friday at the Wisp in Craigmillar.
He had been exploring the mine shaft when 30ft down the oxygen depleted to just 5%. Air should be about 21% to enable people to breathe properly.
The Grampian Speleological Group member was unconscious when he was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
It is understood Mr Ireson was in the shaft for about 45 minutes before he was pulled out.
A request has been made by the family of the deceased for a discussion on this subject on the UK Caving forum to be removed. With regard to this, we have also removed the discussion on this forum.
A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman, said: "There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Peter Ireson.
