Shocked to see this confirmed on social media.

Sad to report that the fearless Cumbrian mine explorer Kate Tyler has died. Taking up the reins from her father she was at forefront of mine exploration in the North and further afield. Her forthright views and incredibly enthusiasm will be missed.
The finest workers in stone are not copper or steel tools, but the gentle touches of air and water working at their leisure with a liberal allowance of time.

One of the strongest, most competent individuals I’ve had the privilege to go underground with.
Her endless enthusiasm was infectious.
Cumbria truly has lost one of its brightest stars.

Sleep well, Kate.

Its very sad and my heart goes out to my old friend of many years Ian. He lost his wife a few years ago and now his daughter.

Very sad. I only met Kate once, when she and Ian visited Morwellham a few years ago. We had a great chat which ended with "next time you're up in Cumbria we must go underground together". Sadly we never did.

Very sad news.

Kate was, well: Kate was Kate. Unique, enthusiastic, unforgettable. A one-off - and the world is a darker place without her.

Thoughts are with Ian and his family.
Hello again darkness, my old friend...

I wondered why my classic picture of Kate was on the home page and am absolutley gutted to find out why. A very upsetting loss of a true Amazon of a woman who I respected greatly. Condolences to Kate’s Family at this sad time.
